ERNEST GAITHER
- Lt. Ernest Gaither,
was an African American who served as an officer
in the Spanish-American War. Originally from
Montclair, N.J., Lt.Ernest Gaither, lived in
Washington, DC. These items were acquired from
his home there which was first purchased by him.
He and his wife, La Vern Webb Gaither, who grew
up in Washington, DC, lived in that home until
their deaths.

- That home
in Northeast Washington, D.C., later served as
the home of generations of their relatives until
about 1994. Tickets and a copy of a flyer dated
1908, and entitled "The progress of a
Race", for admission to lectures by Lieut.
Ernest R. Gaither, which were "Illustrated
with Stereopticon Views" can be seen below:
